LYNDEN, Wash. — A 28-year-old Lynden man was arrested under accusations he brutally stabbed a woman and her two dogs late Saturday at a home in the 700 block of Vine Street.

The Bellingham Herald reports the 52-year-old woman had stab wounds to her head, arm and hand and responding officers found the house in disarray with blood on the floor and walls.

Lynden Police Chief John Billester says Adam John Flanagan was found in his bedroom and struggled with police as they arrested him.

The woman was treated at the hospital while family members took the dogs to get medical care.

Flanagan faces a slew of charges including first-degree assault and animal cruelty, and Billester says the man may have been on psychedelic mushrooms.
