WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A Lynden man was killed in a traffic accident on the Guide Meridian Tuesday afternoon.
The State Patrol reports Norman Shiflet of Maple Falls was towing a vehicle southbound just past Pole Road when the tow strap became disconnected.
Both vehicles stopped and the second driver got out to reconnect the strap.
Shiflet began driving before the second man was out of the way and the towed vehicle ran over him.
Leslie Gillmere of Lynden was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers say drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.
