LYNDEN, WASH. – The City of Lynden settles a discrimination lawsuit for $250,000.

Damon Winters, a volunteer firefighter, filed the lawsuit against the city last April after volunteering at the department for three years.

Winters had applied for several paid full-time positions, but was not hired.

He accused Assistant Chief Robert Spinner of making racist comments and showing favoritism in hiring.

The Bellingham Herald reports the Lynden City Council approved the settlement last week.
