LYNDEN, WASH. – Lynden is trying to entice septic system owners to give them up and connect to the city’s sewers.

About 180 households within the Lynden city limits have septic systems, mostly homes on land recently annexed by the city.

The Bellingham Herald reports the city is waiving the $6,600 fee for those homes to connect to the city’s sewer system.

The goal is to reduce pollution, especially from septic systems that are close to rivers and streams.
