LYNDEN, Wash. – An 83-year-old Lynden woman is alive after somehow ending up in the Nooksack River.

Shirley Assink was reported missing Monday night.

Lynden Police Chief Jack Foster says a worker at a concrete plant found her in the river clinging to a branch.

He says the fire department rescued her the next morning and medics took her to Saint Joseph Hospital, where’s she’s in Satisfactory condition.
