THREE LAKES, Wash. — A flurry of seismic activity in Snohomish County has people on edge after two earthquakes, magnitudes 4.6 and 3.5, shook the area.

The United States Geological Survey reports the 4.6 quake struck at about 2:50 Friday morning, centered near Three Lakes.

Within a minute the 3.5 quake hit near Monroe.

Bill Steele with the University of Washington Seismology lab tells KOMO that a quake of this magnitude usually doesn’t cause much damage.

“Something that’s teetering on a shelf might fall over, but we wouldn’t expect structural damage….it’s not really until you get up around ‘7’ that you start seeing structural damage,” he says.

Several smaller earthquakes have shaken the Monroe area since then.
