BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A man faces attempted robbery, theft and assault charges after police say he went on a phone stealing spree in downtown Bellingham.

A woman told officers she got on an elevator in the building on Cornwall where she works on Monday and was followed and confronted by 40-year-old Lloyd Austin.

Court documents say he demanded money and the woman’s phone and threatened her life if she didn’t comply.

She was able to get outside and call her husband, who arrived and intervened but was assaulted by Austin.

Officers also contacted another person who said Austin had grabbed his phone from him near State and Chestnut Streets.

Austin resisted officers as they arrested him.
