BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A man is in jail on suspicion of a hate crime after he directed a racial slur at his ex-girlfriend while assaulting her.

Bellingham Police responded to a domestic violence report in the 1400 block of Garden Street Tuesday evening, November 9th.

The victim told officers that she and 20-year-old Jayden Janisch were in a car while arguing about their relationship when he grabbed and painfully twisted her leg.

He called her the “n-word” several times along with other disparaging terms during the assault.

She said he had never used that slur against her before.

He fled the scene but officers located and arrested him later Tuesday night.
