MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A state appeals court has denied a request for release by the man who killed six people and wounded four in a shooting spree between Alger and Mount Vernon in 2008.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports Isaac Zamora made the appeal in light of the state Supreme Court’s decision in 2018 that the state’s death penalty is unconstitutional.
He pleaded guilty to four counts of murder and other charges in a deal with prosecutors to avoid the death penalty.
Zamora now says he wouldn’t have made the deal if the death penalty wasn’t on the table.
The appeals court found his argument was without merit.
