MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — The man convicted of brutally killing his girlfriend in their Mount Vernon home last year, claiming God told him to do it, was sentenced Wednesday.

Timothy Hernandez was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to 20 years and four months in prison for the death of Venessa Cons.

The Skagit-Valley Herald reports their younger child was in the room when Hernandez stabbed and beheaded Cons in August 2018.

Their other child found the body.

The Cons family now has custody of the children.
