BELLINGHAM, Wash. – An investigation found that a fire at a house at Billy Frank Jr. and Chestnut Streets on Monday, August 9th, was arson and a man who had recently been evicted from the home is accused of the crime.
Court records state that the owners say they’re on bad terms with Nathanael J. Clark after evicting him from the home at 1123 Billy Frank Jr. Street.
They reported seeing him at a nearby fire station after discovering the fire just after 11 a.m.
A 911 dispatcher also reported getting a phone call from a person identifying themselves as Nate Clark who reported the fire and admitted starting it.
Clark claimed he was just lighting a cigarette when a couch on the porch went up in flames, but his girlfriend told investigators that he had left her home with a can of camp fuel which was later found at the scene of the fire.
Clark remains in jail on $100,000 bond.
