BELLINGHAM, Wash.- A man faces a second degree murder charge in the shooting death of another man at a Bellingham homeless camp.

The shooting happened just after 2 p.m. Friday, September 3rd, at an encampment behind the Walmart store on Meridian Street.

Witnesses told officers that they heard a gunshot and found the 27-year-old victim crawling into a tent and Travis W. Hamilton standing nearby.

Hamilton told officers he was asleep when he heard the gunshot and didn’t know who shot the man, who died at the scene.

Police obtained a search warrant for Hamilton’s tent and found a rifle with ammunition matching a bullet taken from the victim during an autopsy.

Officers arrested Hamilton Friday on outstanding warrants and was served with probable cause for 2nd Degree Murder on Tuesday.
