MINOR ISLAND, Wash. – A local mariner had a close call after his pleasure boat sank Friday.
The Seattle Coast Guard said the man’s 38- foot pleasure craft went down in 258 feet of water near Whidbey Island in 15 mile per hour winds and one foot seas Friday.
The man, whose name was not released, swam to Minor Island after contacting his wife, who called the Coast Guard.
The man was airlifted by the Port Angeles detachment to Whidbey Island General Hospital where he was treated for hypothermia.
