BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A Maple Falls man will likely die in prison after being found guilty of kidnapping and beating another man for hours nearly two years ago.
63-year-old Donald Lee Calvin was sentenced to forty years in prison for an attack on his former neighbor, Jason Jones, that left Jones with extensive injuries, skull fractures, broken wrists, kidney problems and more.
Jones told police in November of 2016 that he went to Calvin’s home and Calvin asked him “who stole his briefcase,” before tying Jones up and beating him for 12 hours, then leaving him in his own car out on a logging road on Sumas Mountain.
Due to the seriousness of Calvin’s crimes, the judge at Whatcom County Superior Court handed down an exceptionally long sentence.
