The Seattle Mariners continue moving pitchers between the parent club and their triple-A affiliate. Seattle selected right handed pitcher Ryne Harper from Tacoma. Right hander Rob Whalen was optioned to the Rainiers.
General Manager Jerry Dipoto announced the moves Sunday as Seattle’s Major League, 40-man roster, is now full at 40 players.
Harper will be making his Major League debut in his first appearance. The 28-year-old is 2-0 with 3 saves and 1.89 ERA in 15 relief appearances with Tacoma this season,
Harper was acquired by the Mariners as the Player to Be Named later from the Atlanta Braves on Dec. 11, 2015 completing a trade that sent RHP Jose Ramirez to Atlanta on Dec. 4, 2015.
Whalen was recalled to Seattle for the second time on May 24. He made his Mariners debut as the starting pitcher Saturday and was charged with the loss after allowing 5 ER in 5.1 innings pitched. Rob made 4 starts with AAA Tacoma and was 0-2, with a 4.09 ERA.
