The Seattle Mariners will extend the netting at Safeco Field for the 2018 season. The club announced the plan Thursday in reaction to a foul ball injury of a two-year-old girl earlier this week at Yankee Stadium.

“This is an issue that we’ve been concerned about for some time,” Mariners president Kevin Mather said on www.mlb.com/mariners  . “We still have some details to work out, but the bottom line is expanded netting at Safeco Field is going to happen.”

Currently the M’s will join the Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres in making alterations. While the details of Seattle changes have not been made public. Cincinnati released a statement saying they will extend the outer reach of the netting to each dugout at Great American Ball Park. The Padres are expected to follow suit.

According to the Associated Press, the toddler who was hit by the foul ball off the bat of Todd Fraizer remained in a Bronx hospital as of Thursday night.
