Mariners fans already had enough to be excited about today, as Opening Day is finally here for the M’s after being delayed a day. The big news came this morning from ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

J.P. Crawford is here to stay for at least five more seasons in Seattle after signing his 5 year extension worth over $50 million. Crawford won’t be eligible for free agency until after the 2026 season.

“J.P. brings excellent defense at a critical position, in addition to solid on-base skills and a penchant for delivering in the big moment.” Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto said today. “He’s an incredibly competitive player who has become an integral part of our team, both on the field and in the clubhouse.”

Crawford has grown as a leader for the Mariners since being acquired by the Phillies prior to the 2019 season.

The Mariners first pitch of an exciting new season comes this afternoon at 1:10 pm in Minnesota against the Twins. Coverage begins on KPUG at noon.
