Mariners place shortstop Jean Segura placed on 10-day DL

The Seattle Mariners have placed shortstop Jean Segura on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. The M’s selected infielder Mike Freeman from AAA Tacoma. To make room on the Major League, 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Paul Fry has been designated for assignment.

Segura injured himself in Monday’s game against Houston. In eight games this season, he was hitting .313 with 6 runs, 3 RBI and 3 stolen bases.

Freeman hit .333 with 2 runs in three games with AAA Tacoma this season. He was removed from the 40-man roster during spring training when the club acquired Chase De Jong from Los Angeles.

Fry made just one appearance with AAA Tacoma before being designated for assignment. He was placed on the 40-man roster this offseason and in five minor league seasons he is 13-14 with a 2.89 ERA.
