SEATTLE, Wash. – The Seattle Mariners have recalled right handed pitcher Thyago Vieira from AAA Tacoma. Pitcher Christian Bergman was optioned to Tacoma. Mariners General Manager Jerry Dipoto announced the roster moves Monday.
The 24-year old Vieira will be making his Major League debut with his first appearance. He earned 2 saves while posting a 3.18 ERA with 10 strikeouts and 6 walks in 7 appearances with AAA Tacoma. He also appeared in 29 outings with AA Arkansas. He went 2-3 with 2 saves and a 3.72 ERA with 35 strikeouts and 15 walks. Overall, he is 2-3 with 4 saves and a 3.59 ERA while striking out 45 and walking 21 in 36 combined games.
Bergman, made 2 relief appearances with the Mariners since being selected from AAA Tacoma prior to Saturday’s game. He combined for 5.0 scoreless innings in relief – including 4.0 scoreless innings Sunday vs. the Angels. Overall, the right-hander is 4-4 with a 4.91 ERA with 33 strikeouts and 14 walks in 11 games over two stints with Seattle this season.
