The Bellingham High School coaching staff will look a bit different for the 2017-18 school year. Mark Wright has resigned as head coach of girls’ soccer and girls’ basketball.
Bellingham Athletic Director Chad Larson told KPUG Wright is focusing on his family. “Last week Coach Wright sent an e-mail out to his players and parents and explained it was time for him to begin a new chapter and be a dad,” said Larson. “He has a wonderful family with some younger kinds and wants to spend more time with them.”
Wright, who teaches Japanese and Social Studies at Bellingham, took the BHS basketball coaching job in March of 2015. It was his second stint, after leading the lady Red Raiders from 2000-2007. He also coached the Bellingham boys’ basketball team in 2008. He coached Bellingham soccer for 16 years.
Former assistant coach Jared Fields is taking over as head coach of girls soccer. No replacement for girls basketball has been named.
