WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Protests against masks and vaccination mandates continue in Whatcom County.
A group of parents demonstrated against the governor’s rule requiring masks in schools Wednesday evening on Main Street in Ferndale.
In Lynden, many who attended the August 12th school board meeting were against the mask mandate.
Tonya Hickman was among them, expressing fears that there is only one acceptable narrative.
She’s running for the school board because of this and other issues she thinks are wrong directions for public education.
Crowds also continue to gather outside PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center to protest a mandate that all of its workers be vaccinated.
A common theme in these protests is a claim of government overreach and a lack of local control.
State and local health officials continue to insist that vaccinations and mask wearing in crowded public places are the best ways to stem the increasing spread of COVID-19 infections.
