SEATTLE, Wash. — Despite President Trump threatening to withhold their funding, the Seattle Times reports Seattle and nearby jurisdictions have been approved for $657,975 from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Assistant Attorney General Matt Dummermuth sent a letter to the “Honorable Ed Murray,” saying he was acting on behalf of Attorney General Jeff Sessions in approving Seattle’s application.

Ed Murray resigned as Mayor last September and currently has lawsuits and investigations pending which involve sexual assault of young boys.

Current Mayor Jenny Durkan took credit for the award, celebrating the lawyers and judges who fought back when President Trump proposed no longer sending sanctuary cities federal money.

In a statement, Mayor Durkan says, “Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions blinked, Seattle won, and public safety prevailed. Because of the work by City Attorney Holmes who worked closely with cities across the country, we saw that we have the law – and justice – on our side.”
