ARIEL, Wash. — An Ohio man was found alive Wednesday nearly a week after he went missing on a hike near Mount St. Helens.
Rescuers say Matthew Matheny lost the trail and survived on berries and bees, but was in good condition.
The 40-year-old wasn’t familiar with the terrain, got lost and went without seeing another person for almost a week.
After days of searching, rescuers found Matheny when they focused on one square mile of the area around Blue Lake, based on cellphone signals and a computer model prediction of Matheny’s movements.
