OLYMPIA, Wash. — Four more chains recently joined 30 other corporations nationwide to remove “no-poach” clauses under an initiative by the State Attorney General.
Quiznos, Massage Envy, and Sport Clips are the latest to remove language from contracts that prevent workers from going to different stores for higher pay.
In a 2017 New York Times article, Princeton economists discussed the harm these clauses pose and pointed to the lack of competition as a reason behind stagnant wages, which led the AG’s office to investigate.
In order to avoid a lawsuit, all 34 chains signed legally-binding commitments to stop the practice.
