SUMAS, Wash. – Residents in northeast Whatcom County are still feeling the impact after an ice storm crippled the area Friday and Saturday.
Currently, nearly 600 PSE customers are without power, but that number had been in the thousands.
PSE hopes to have power restored to customers in the Lynden, Sumas and Everson areas by Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday.
The ice storm brought down power poles, including about 20 on the Guide Meridian north of Badger Road and every pole on Garrison Road north of Clearbrook, approximately 40 power poles.
Ice that the National Weather Service said was more than half-an-inch thick in spots weighed down and broke many trees throughout the northeast.
Driving conditions are still treacherous, but public works crews are out.
