FERNDALE, Wash. – An attempted motorcycle thief had his ambitions cut short after the bike he was stealing ran out of gas.

Washington State Patrol troopers saw the thief speeding on I-5 NB in Ferndale last Friday evening, September 30th, according to court documents.

At one point, troopers clocked the rider hitting speeds of 114 mph.

Troopers followed the rider to the Peace Portal Drive exit, where he slowed and eventually came to a stop.

The suspect attempted to make a run for it but was quickly apprehended by troopers.

A search of the suspect, 30-year-old Brett McCauley, later yielded fentanyl pills and other drug paraphernalia.

Investigators later learned that the motorcycle was reported stolen four days earlier and had only stopped because it had run out of gas.
