GLACIER, Wash. — The Mount Baker Highway is closed east of Glacier Thursday morning.
WSDOT crews closed the highway at milepost 37 because of avalanche danger in the area.
The closure will last until early Friday or until the risk decreases.
The Mount Baker Ski Area is closed Thursday but expects to be open for normal operations Friday.
The Northwest Avalanche Center expects continued moderate to heavy snow on Mount Baker combined with strong winds, resulting in high avalanche danger near the treeline and above.
