BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A Mount Vernon man was arrested last week on a slew of charges including identity theft after a Sedro-Woolley man was found dead.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the 4800 block of Park Road south of Acme November 25th and found the man in his 70s dead in his car port.
An autopsy showed he died of natural causes, but had been dead for weeks.
The man’s house had been ransacked and numerous items were missing, including his car.
Investigators tracked multiple fraudulent withdrawals from the man’s bank account to 34-year-old Kevin K. Wood and arrested him November 26th in Anacortes while he was driving the victim’s stolen car.
Deputies say Wood admitted to spending about $7,000 from the victim’s account.
