MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A Mount Vernon man was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to controlled substance homicide.

26-year-old John Dennis Mendieta will spend more than 4-years in prison.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports a 2018 investigation found Mendieta sold the pills that killed 27-year-old Ronald Shweigert of Mount Vernon.

Shweigert reportedly took the pills thinking they were percocet, but they were actually counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl.
