MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — The Mount Vernon Police Department has raised thousands of dollars to support the community’s homeless population.

Sergeant Brent Thompson says they raised nearly $17,000 in monetary donations and supplies during this year’s MVPD Outreach Program fundraiser, which spanned a five-week period during October and November.

Donations will be used by the department’s Outreach Coordinator to assist those experiencing homelessness in the community.

The city of Mount Vernon has an outreach program that works directly with the police department to assist community members in need, freeing up patrol officers to take care of urgent calls.
