MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Mount Vernon is considering high-density housing development.

Rebecca Lowell, senior planner with the city, told the Skagit Valley Herald that the code amendments proposed Wednesday are designed to promote more development of both market rate and affordable houses, duplexes and apartments.

The amendments would allow developers to build more housing units per acre throughout Mount Vernon, as long as at least one third of them are considered affordable.

There will be several City Council and Planning Commission meetings to further discuss the proposal ahead of a vote.
