PORT ANGELES, Wash. — Federal and state agencies plan to capture as many mountain goats as possible from Olympic National Park and relocate them to the North Cascades, where they are native.

The effort would start this summer.

Mountain goats are considered an environmental problem on the Olympic Peninsula and a safety risk after a hiker was fatally gored in 2010.

When capturing them is no longer possible, the plan is to kill off the rest.
