MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Multiple agencies in Skagit county are coming together to catch murder hornets in the area.

Insect traps were given to county, city and tribal governments to “cast as wide a net” as possible, according to the Anacortes Parks and Recreation director.

The goal is to tag live hornets and release them so researchers can follow them back to their colony.

Residents can volunteer to help install traps once the state enters later phases of Gov. Inslee’s reopening guidelines.
