WADHINGTON, DC – Senator Patty Murray took the plight of the people of Point Roberts to the floor of the U.S. Senate this week.

“Point Roberts must at least have an exemption as we work to safely reopen the Canadian border,” says Murray.

She explained to senators that the Whatcom County exclave is currently the most isolated community in the entire U.S. and its businesses are dying off without Canadian visitors.

She says she supports the Biden administrations efforts to combat the pandemic.

“I firmly believe the evidence supports at least a narrow and tailored exception to the Canadian border closure,” says Murray. “To allow for a reopening of the border for this community, Point Roberts.”

She says the administration hasn’t given her any reason why the Point Roberts border can’t be open to vaccinated Canadians.

The Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce continues to issue dire reports about the state of its businesses.
