GLACIER, Wash. — A 41-year-old Seattle man was found dead in the Nooksack River.
The State Patrol received reports of a naked man near Mount Baker Highway and Cornell Creek Road before noon on Saturday.
Authorities say he was in a serious mental health crisis and that he believed he was affected by demons.
A trooper spotted the man in the river attempting to drive a stake into his mouth.
He did not respond to officers and was taken down the river by the current.
A Customs and Border Protection helicopter and Search and Rescue team assisted in the search.
Kayakers found his body washed ashore later that afternoon.
