LYNDEN, Wash. – The National Parks Service is honoring a Lynden Christian teacher for his service.

Harlan Kredit teaches 8th grade biology and earth sciences at the Lynden school, but he’s also worked as a park ranger at Yellowstone National Park since 1971.

The Parks Service says Kredit is one of the most effective and longest serving rangers in the park’s history, having served every summer for the last 50 years.

When he’s back home in Lynden teaching, Kredit takes his students on field trips to the North Cascades and Olympic National Park.

He also leads his students in salmon restoration efforts.

Kredit says over the years they’ve raise more than 50,000 Coho salmon and released them in Fishtrap Creek in Lynden.

If you have any stories about Ranger Harlan, you can share them on Yellowstone’s Facebook page.
