ELIZA ISLAND, Wash. — The navy performed a medevac rescue from Eliza Island, just across Bellingham Bay, on Sunday to St. Joseph Hospital.
The search and rescue team was at a Canada Day event at Point Roberts when they got the call that a 73-year-old man needed transport.
Bellingham Fire Department had responded by boat, but decided it was too risky with weather conditions for transport.
The helicopter landed and brought him directly to the hospital.
This was the second medevac of 2018 provided by NAS Whidbey Search and Rescue, who have also conducted four searches and fourteen rescues this year.
