ORCAS ISLAND, Wash. – Airlift Northwest has opened a new air ambulance base on Orcas Island to improve response times for critically ill patients in the San Juans.
The base at Eastsound Municipal Airport is home to an Airbus helicopter with capability to fly in adverse weather conditions.
It is staffed with two critical care nurses and often a physician.
The base began daily operations on December 6th.
Airlift Northwest is a non-profit air medical transport service operated by UW Medicine.
