EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — A new Washington law allows bicyclists to treat stop signs as yield signs if there is no oncoming traffic.

But slowly rolling through stop signs is still a traffic violation for motorized vehicles and people on roller skates, scooters and skateboards.

The new law went into effect on October 1st.

Democratic state Senator Marko Liias said the law is specific to bike riders but that it could change for scooters that have brakes.
