BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The new Galbraith Mountain parking lot is set to open.

Laine Potter with Bellingham Parks and Recreation says it’ll be a big improvement over the tiny gravel lot that left many mountain bikers parked on the shoulder of Samish Way.

She says it has almost 200 parking spaces and other amenities.

“Bathrooms, an ADA acceptable restroom, some amenities including trash cans, recycling cans, dog waste stations,” said Potter.

It’s on city-owned property but was paid for by private funds raised by the Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition.

Ram Construction and its subcontractors were partners in the construction and also donated some of their work.

The lot could be open as soon as this Friday, May 13th, and a formal ribbon cutting with the mayor and others is planned for May 24th.
