MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A new homeless shelter in Burlington is expected to open this spring.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports the Burlington City Council cleared the way for the creation of a homeless shelter on city-owned land.
The 35-unit facility called the Skagit First Step Center is on track to open by May 1.
Friendship House, the Mount Vernon-based homeless services nonprofit, will manage the shelter and will seek grant funding to ensure its success.
