OLYMPIA, Wash. –  Some changes to labor law affecting both workers and employers are coming to Washington on January 1st.

The minimum wage will increase from $11.00 to $11.50 an hour.

Tim Church with the state Department of Labor and Industries says the new law, passed by voters in 2016, requires employers to give workers one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours they work.

It applies to part-time and seasonal workers as well as full-time employees, and to all businesses big and small.

The department has information and tools for complying with the law at its website.
