OLYMPIA, Wash. – The weather is cool and the air is clear, but the Department of Labor and Industries is reminding employers that rules protecting workers from dangerous summer conditions are now in effect.
Employers are required to provide cool water, shade and cool down breaks for workers outside when temperatures go over 89 degrees.
They are encouraged to reduce or reschedule work when wildfire smoke or other conditions push the Air Quality Index over 69.
And they are required to take those steps when the index is over 101.
The rules went into effect on Wednesday, June 15th, and run through the end of September.
