OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington State is filling the gaps in the coastal tsunami alert system.

The Emergency Management Division is putting in 50 new tsunami sirens statewide, including five in Whatcom County.

The new All-Hazard Alert Broadcast sirens, known as AHAB, will fill critical gaps in our tsunami warning infrastructure.

The new sirens will go in at Sandy Point, Lummi Bay Market, Semiahmoo Marina, Birch Bay Sate Park and the Fairhaven Historic District.

Visit the EMD’s website for more information and a map of the sirens.
