BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Invasive species have been found in Lake Padden.
The City of Bellingham says staff from their Aquatic Invasive Species Program recently discovered New Zealand mudsnails in the lake and are still determining the extent of the infestation in order to develop a response plan.
They urge anyone who comes into contact with Lake Padden to make sure all clothing, gear and watercraft are clean before leaving the area to prevent them from spreading.
The City says pet owners should limit their pets’ exposure to the lake and clean them thoroughly after visiting.
This is the first confirmed sighting of invasive New Zealand mudsnails in Whatcom County.
