OLYMPIA, Wash. — A bee keeper in Custer says he believes the so-called “Murder Hornets” that have captivated the nation destroyed one of his honey bee colonies last November.

State Department of Agriculture spokesperson Karla Salp says they’ve received this and other reports of possible Giant Asian Hornet attacks on honey bees in the region.

But she says it doesn’t take many of the invasive creatures to destroy a colony, and they still have no evidence of a widespread infestation of “Murder Hornets” in Whatcom County.

They’re setting up traps now to try to determine the scale of the problem.
