ELIZA ISLAND, WA. – (KGMI.com) No one was injured after a residential fire on Eliza Island over the weekend.
Bellingham Fire Department Captain Dustin Michaelis says the fire was reported on the southeast part of the island around 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 28th.
The department sent a pair of crews via their Salish Star fireboat to reach the island, which has no firefighting capabilities itself.
The house collapsed by the time crews reached it and they began a defensive operation with the help of a island resident.
Michaelis says no one was believed to be inside of the house.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
