National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries has approved a plan to restrict salmon fishing off the West Coast when necessary to protect endangered orcas.
The non-tribal fishing restrictions would go into place when chinook salmon forecasts are low.
The restrictions extend from the Puget Sound in Washington to Monterey Bay in central California.
NOAA adopted the plan Tuesday, September 14th, after it was recommended by the Pacific Fishery Management Council.
