SEATTLE, Wash. — It sounds like a refreshing break from our current weather conditions but give it a few months.
NOAA says a La Nina event has officially begun as water temperatures in the central Pacific Ocean have been at least a half-degree Celsius cooler than normal for three months.
That could mean a wetter winter for Washington state.
The agency says there is a 75% chance that La Nina conditions will persist through the winter, meaning more rain in the lowlands and more snow in the mountains.
