FERNDALE, Wash. – The Nooksack River in Ferndale is back on the rise. The USGS gauge there showed a level of 13 feet at 7:30 Sunday morning, five feet below flood stage.
The Skagit River in Mount Vernon was also on the rise Sunday morning. As of 7:15 Sunday, the gauge there showed a river level of slightly over 22 feet, compared with a flood level of 28 feet, and up two feet in 24 hours.
The National Weather Service has continued a flood watch for both Whatcom and Skagit Counties through Monday night, and cautions there is an increased threat of shallow landslides due to excessive soil saturation.
